| Collaboration with Coastal Communities & Within Communities of Practice SeaTrust Institute is interested in involving the coastal communities in a process designed to uncover joint interests and build capacity among the communities to guide the future of the outer coastal environmental resources. How do we do this? We participate with regional science and policy programs. Why do we need to do this? Better information about the values and interests of coastal communities allows for the development of positive partnerships to address policy and environmental resources decisions. Understanding and leveraging this information also empowers coastal regions to powerfully participate in scientifically informed decisions that affect the lives of those who live and work in these communities. Plans for developing an online forum for collecting and sharing information about the area's natural resources among individuals and groups from coastal communities is expanding with the advent of the Consortium on Climate Change and Population Health. This winter, discussion areas related to coastal areas will link with that project to allow members of the community to tell us what they value. The goal is to uncover new and unanticipated areas of potential action that benefits the communities and their natural resources. | |
